The judges provide a 'lure' made of cloth, filled with sand or a similar substance. The team is allowed three minutes to set up the machine, attach the lure, and make a practice cast, if desired. Six minutes are allowed to make two casts at each of three targets. The operator must communicate which target is being attempted before casting. The distance from the final resting place of the lure to the center of the target is measured. The sum of these distances is the team's score. Penalties are applied for casting outside the boundaries or exceeding the time limit. The operator touching the machine results in a major penalty. Casts not attempted are recorded as 600cm. The team with the lowest final score is the winner.
